I’m a tourist guide!

2 11 2008

My name is Rahul Gannamani and I live in a country located in

Europe-The Netherlands. The country is partly below sea level. It

is famous for many things such as: cheese, windmills, clogs

& tulips. Specifically I live in Hilversum, it is a small town 35km north east

of the capital Amsterdam. In the capital there are many large tourist

attractions so if you visit Amsterdam it is already a large tourist attraction

area.

The Dutch queen lives in Den Haag, in english The Hague. Eventhough the

queen doesn’t live in Amsterdam it is still the capital.

As a tourist guide I would reccomend you to visit the places below if

you visit The Netherlands:

Keukenhof:

This is the world’s largest open air flower display/show.

You can find many different types of flowers here.

Rotterdam:

Rotterdam is known for its equisite bridge: erasmusbrug and also for being

a huge harbour. It is also known for other attractions such as Euromast,

Hotel New York, etc.

Delft:

Delft is a small town located near The Hague. It has many beautiful buildings

and is known for its porcelain, delft blue.

Madurodam:

Madurodam is an eye catching attraction, it is located right next to The Hague.

It shows the beautiful tourist sites across the whole of Europe with miniature,

sometimes moving models!

My Autumn Vacation

2 11 2008

In my autumn break I have been to Brussels. I took an open air,

tour bus in which we saw about 20 tourist attractions. We a

The temperature was very chilly. I went there with my grandparents,

my parents and my sister. We got a rental car, a Volkswagen Sharan. It is a 7 seater.

I hope to go on another holiday with my family again!

The Phantom Tollbooth

21 10 2008

In the autumn break I have been reading a book written by Norton Juster

first published in 1961 in the United States of America: The Phantom Tollbooth.

Here below I will give you a brief summary of the book and give you my opinion.

Summary:

The main character, a boy called Milo doesn’t know what to do

with himself. He can’t concentrate at all. For instance, when he is walking home he

thinks about school. When he is walking to school he thinks about home.

After a usual day at school Milo went back home and sat in his room bored.

He looked around his room and noticed a parcel. He was eager to know what was

in it and who gave it to him. He eagerly opened the packaging and saw something

looking like a tollbooth.

He finds a letter containing instructions:

“SLOW DOWN APPROACHING THE TOLLBOOTH

 PLEASE HAVE YOUR FARE READY

HAVE YOUR DESTINATION IN MIND”

He unfolded his map and followed the instructions.

Suddenly he was in the middle of nowhere…

Who would he meet? Where would he go?

Opinion:

“The author really painted a picture in my mind. I could really

see what was happening. I could understand Milo’s thoughts.

There were gradual changes throughout the book. The suspense started

growing and the book became more exciting. The setting kept changing constantly

since Milo was traveling throughout his adventure. Milo kept meeting new characters.

The book is a fantasy, thus, it would be impossible to believe unless you had an

imagination. There was neither violence or death in the book. Character’s feelings were

just hurt by the quarrels that took place.

I felt differently throughout the whole book. I did not just have one feeling but many

throughout. This is because of the different types of incidents. I was very eager to read on,

the book is a page turner.

I thought the end was quite nice but it didn’t have a amazing twist like a Harry Potter

book. My thoughts on the book have improved since I finished reading it. I would

recommend it to people who like fantasy.

There are no emotional connections between me and the story. Overall it is a pretty

good book. I would give it a seven out of ten.”
